Speedwell Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship
Thanks to the Speedwell Foundation, AFS-USA can provide full scholarships to qualified, academically-strong high school students for an opportunity to broaden their global perspectives.
To be eligible for this competitive, merit-based scholarship, you must:
Live in or attend a high school within one of 19 counties located in central Pennsylvania (counties eligible for this scholarship are listed below),
Apply for a year high school program to a non-English speaking country**.
**AFS reserves the right to choose the final country destination and does not guarantee you will be offered a scholarship to one of the country choices listed on your AFS-USA application.
How to Apply
Deadlines for Speedwell Scholarships are in mid January (fall departures) and mid September (winter departures) each year, depending on the study abroad destination. Please check the Speedwell Foundation Scholarship page on the AFS website for the most up to date information. (www.afsusa.org/speedwell)
Click here to start your AFS-USA application.
When you have begun the application, you will enter into the AFS Portal designed just for you. In this portal you will find a Dashboard that will list tasks to complete in the application process. You are only given a few of the tasks at each stage. When your dashboard is empty, you will need to speak to a Study Abroad Specialist by phone to get additional portions of your application, including materials to apply for the Speedwell.
Meet with an AFS volunteer or staff member in your home
The application process requires an in-home interview with you and at least one parent. This session is not part of the Speedwell selection process but rather an opportunity to get to know you better and to provide an opportunity for you and your family to become informed about AFS and The Speedwell Foundation and to ask questions. The interview does not have to be completed before you submit the completed application but you may find it helpful to meet by that time.
